juno

i just got back from seeing the movie about a pregnant teenager that has everyone talking. i liked it. it was sweet and offbeat. there are no real spoilers here but if you want to be kept completely in the dark, skip down to the part where i talk about how i met my prom date, steve, in a convent.

my favorote part of the movie is the scene where juno is standing in front of her boyfriend as he sits ready for them to have sex. and though the director forces the innocence of the moment with her cherry print underwear, i found the sock mark indention on her left leg much more poignant. nothing like a sock mark to say, "yep, here i am. i was just clothed and now i am not."

now back to steve. this movie talked a bit about prom and the songs that played at prom. and during the movie, it got me thinking about my junior prom date, steve saalfeld, from beaverton, oregon. that i met in a convent. (score one for lacroix and zero for jesus.) we danced, as if in a time warp, to the honeydrippers 'sea of love'. i wore a crushed green velvet dress and had very curly hair and lots of makeup and looked not unlike an extra in a jane austin 'period piece' film.

so i am thinking about this and then a version of my prom song 'sea of love', this time sung by cat power, starts playing in the movie.

no. really. this actually happened.

ah steve, cheers to you-wherever you are!
